‘Just Like You’ children’s book is a great book for younger kids. I think it teaches them to not be afraid of making friends with someone who might not look like or possibly speak the same way as they do. It also might help kids be more comfortable with asking questions instead of staring at a person who they think is different. I believe ‘Just Like You’ should be available in elementary school classrooms and daycares. Reading this book to a classroom of inquisitive young minds would surely open a lively discussion about how to befriend and understand special needs children, young adults and beyond.

This book is an excellent example of the perspective of a young person with a disability that can be simultaneously scary and heartbreaking for a child and their family. We discover how the child views himself in a mix of textbook and juvenile writing style. The pictorial illustrations make this book more personable by showing us how the child interacts with classmates/friends. The real-life experiences mixed with the vibrant pictures makes the story more compelling and helps the audience connect with the child. All in all, I enjoyed the book and learned a lot about a disability that I had very little knowledge of prior.
